Few things move NAS100 like US economic data. Knowing when the big releases happen, and having a plan for them, protects your account.
The releases that matter most
- CPI (inflation): released monthly at 8:30 ET. Hotter-than-expected inflation can hit growth stocks hard.
- FOMC (Federal Reserve rate decisions): statement at 14:00 ET, press conference at 14:30 ET, eight scheduled meetings a year.
- NFP (jobs report): usually the first Friday of the month at 8:30 ET.
What happens on NAS100
Around releases, spreads can widen and price can spike in both directions within seconds. Stops may fill at worse prices than expected (slippage).
Three ways to handle news
- Stand aside: no open trades a few minutes before and after the release.
- Trade the reaction: wait for the initial spike to settle, then apply your normal structure-and-confirmation process.
- Reduce size: if you must be in a trade, risk less than usual.
Check the calendar daily
